Frequently Asked Questions
Working with Sequoia
The best first step is to complete a project enquiry. Tell us about your project, including the scope, site, timeline and budget range, and Danny will review it personally and be in touch to arrange an initial conversation. There's no fee for the first conversation.
We focus on residential new builds, alterations and additions, and design coordination. We are selective about the projects we take on, not because we're difficult to work with, but because we only ever run a small number of projects at once. This is what allows Danny to be personally involved on every build.
Primarily Sydney's Eastern Suburbs and surrounding areas, including Bondi, Kingsford, Paddington, Woollahra, Randwick, Maroubra, and the Inner East more broadly. Enquire about your location and we'll let you know.
Danny Abush, Sequoia's founder, personally manages every project. You will always have direct access to the decision-maker. Not a site foreman standing in. Not an account manager relaying messages. Danny.
Absolutely. We frequently work alongside clients' existing architects and love a good design team. We also offer design coordination for clients who don't yet have a designer, helping engage the right architect, manage approvals, and ensure the design is buildable and priced before contract.
Budget & Cost
Detailed, itemised and fully transparent. Every line in the estimate has a basis. Every variation is documented and agreed before work proceeds. You always know exactly where the budget stands and why. No surprises at handover.
Our projects span a wide range of budgets, from considered renovations through to larger new builds well into the millions. Whatever the size, every project gets the same hands-on management and attention to detail. That's the calibre of service we provide.
Every variation is formally documented with a clear scope description and cost before any work proceeds. This is non-negotiable. You will never be presented with a surprise invoice at the end of a build for work you didn't consciously authorise.
Yes. Once we have a sufficient level of documentation (architectural drawings, engineering if available), Danny can provide a detailed cost plan. This early estimating work is part of what we call pre-construction, and it is one of the highest-value things a builder can do for a client before contract.
The Build Process
Significant time is invested before a contract is ever signed. Design intent is resolved, missing scope is identified, and site-specific risks are understood. This is where a good builder earns their fee, by eliminating the surprises that cost real money during construction. We won't start on site until we're confident the build is ready.
Regular budget and programme updates are provided as a matter of course, not as an afterthought. Site visits can be arranged at any stage. Issues are raised and resolved proactively, not after the fact. Danny is reachable directly throughout the build.
Every project is different. Build time depends on the size, scope and site. The best way to get a realistic timeline for your project is to reach out via our project enquiry so Danny can discuss it with you directly. We provide a detailed construction programme at contract stage and manage proactively against it.
Handover is thorough and documented. We complete a comprehensive defects inspection, provide all documentation, warranties, and trade contact information, and follow up post-handover to ensure everything is in order. The relationship doesn't end at the keys.
Design & Approvals
Yes. Through our Design Coordination service, we manage the full approval pathway, engaging the appropriate architect or draftsperson, preparing DA documentation, liaising with council, and navigating conditions. We've been through this process many times and know what council expects.
Not necessarily. It can be beneficial to engage a builder like Sequoia early, even before DA lodgement, to provide buildability input, early cost advice, and ensure the design doesn't create expensive construction problems. Early builder involvement typically saves money.
Difficult sites are often our best projects. Complex topography, tight access, heritage constraints, or challenging soil conditions require a builder with deep experience and direct management involvement. That's exactly what we provide.
After the Build
Yes. We offer ongoing care for completed projects, a trusted, consistent relationship with a builder who knows your home intimately. Whether it's minor works, seasonal maintenance, or managing trade subcontractors, Danny remains a direct point of contact after handover.
All Sequoia projects come with the statutory warranties required under the NSW Home Building Act, including a 6-year structural defects warranty and a 2-year non-structural defects warranty. Beyond the statutory requirements, we stand behind our work, and our clients know they can pick up the phone.
